The Angus Fraser Collection
245 tunes dating back to 18th Century Scotland and earlier.
This is a newly typeset complete version of a manuscript found in the 1950's which is considered to be 'the most important collection of Scottish Gaelic Airs to be recovered in the last 100 years' and the only seemingly authentic collection of Scottish harp music ever recovered. Some of the pieces are after the style of pibroch and some according to Angus Fraser relate to the old variation style of harp playing. Angus’s grandparents lived at the time of the last harpers and both they and his father had a great interest in Gaelic and instrumental music which they passed on to him. This book was never published as Angus died young around 1874. Taigh na Teud has taken the original manuscript copy, with permission from Edinburgh University Library, and published it in one volume. The original intention of Angus Fraser was that it was to be in 4 parts. There are 245 tunes and they have been reproduced as close to the original form as is possible. We hope we have presented it as Angus Fraser would have wished it. This is a fascinating book for harpers, fiddlers, Gaelic singers and pipers and all those interested in studying and learning tunes from the past.
