Bothy Ballads

A source Cd of songs from North East Scotland, as sung by the itinerant workers.

These songs were collected and prepared by the School of Scottish Studies in Edinburgh University and represent some of the best of the songs sung by the people of North East Scotland as they worked on the farms as labourers. When not working they spent their time playing music, swapping and writing songs. They were mostly unmarried men living in bothies (communal barn type accommodation) provided for the labourers as they moved from farm to farm according to the work that was needed at the time. Music from the North East sung by Jimmy MacBeath, James Bowie, Bill Elvin, John MacDonald, Charlie Murray and Jamie Taylor, Charlie Bremner and Frank Steele.
