The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (Formerly known as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama), Scotland’s national conservatoire, is the only institution in the world offering a BA (Honours) in Scottish Music. It also offers graded exams and unmarked performance assessments in traditional Scottish music that anyone can participate in, from school-age pupils to adult learners. The Royal Conservatoire currently offers exams and assessments in fiddle, accordion and Scottish harp. Sessions take place in Glasgow in spring and autumn, but schools can request special visits by an examiner at any time. Syllabuses, repertoires and entry guidelines can be viewed on their website: www.rcs.ac.uk/shortcourses/musicyoungpeople/gradedexams.
Examiners are specialists in their disciplines, ensuring that a candidate receives expert, independent assessment of their performance. The Graded Exams are fully validated by The Royal Conservatoire’s Academic Board.
Taigh na Teud is working exclusively with RCS to offer printed collections of Graded Exams repertoire in all three disciplines, allowing candidates and tutors access to a great diversity of traditional and modern tunes in one convenient source.
The exam compositions and arrangements for all instruments and the Specimen Quick Study, Practical & Aural Musicianship pieces are available to purchase now at Taigh na Teud’s digital download website www.playscottishmusic.com.
