SCOTTISH HARP - Corrina Hewat (with Cd)
This excellent
book was recently launched at 'The Edinburgh Harp Festival'. A great
selection of material that Corrina has produced for her very popular concerts
and workshops including traditional tunes with a few of her own compositions
too. There is a professionally recorded Cd to help with the interpretation
of the music. These arrangements are traditional music with the influence
of the contemporary music and jazz that Corrina studied. The Cd includes all the
tunes and illustrates the style.

THE MALCOM MCDONALD COLLECTION - of Strathspey Reels
etc
Macolm McDonald published four collections of Strathspey Reels which have
been unavailable to the general public except through a library, for about 150
years. There are many interesting old tunes in these volumes some of which he
wrote himself and others he collected. The first volume of these tunes was
published in 1788 and was entirely made up of his own compositions. The
following volumes contained a number of tunes which are thought to be the work
of other composers. Little personal information is known about Malcolm McDonald
but it is known that at one time he lived around Dunkeld, probably in the
village of Inver. It is also said that Malcolm played the cello for Neil
Gow after the death of Gow's brother Donald. An interesting old collection
of over 130 tunes to add to the repertoire.
