THE GLEN COLLECTION
The Glen Collection of Scottish Dance Music,
reprinted by Highland Music
Trust in 2001, is a welcome source book for all
with an interest in Scottish
music. The books contain 292 selected
tunes from Marshall, the Gow family,
Mackintosh and others (all meticulously
attributed), most of which are not
available elsewhere. The reprint
combines both volumes and reproduces the
text in its entirety. The
tunes are printed in the treble lines only, and
grouped into keys, with a
composite index.

THE ATHOLE COLLECTION
The Athole Collection of Scottish Dance Music is
recognised as one of the
principal sources in this field. Its compiler,
James Stewart Robertson
published his collection of 870 strathspeys, reels,
jigs, hornpipes and
country dances in 1884. The current edition was
published by Balnain House
in Inverness in 1996 and was instantly
welcomed. The music is grouped by
keys, and the juxtaposition of
strathspeys and reels encourages the playing
of the tunes in sets.
