SESSION

PRODUCTS

Combined Ho-ro-gheallaidh 1 & 2
A perfect bound double volume of the two session books. Contains all the material in the first two volumes with strong laminated binding.
In order to have a good session it is important to have a common repertoire of tunes and this is forever changing as musicians introduce new tunes to each other that they have learnt from many sources such as other musicians, music courses, fiddler teachers, Cds and travel in other countries. The material is very varied and often the tunes come not just from Scotland but from Ireland, Cape Breton, Scandinavia, and even Eastern Europe. As the tunes are passed on they often evolve like chinese whispers and the versions become slightly different and more influenced by Scottish music. For example there are many Scottish versions of Irish tunes. In this book we have a representative collection of the best tunes played in sessions in Scotland today. A collection of over 160 tunes many of which will be familiar from the playing of touring bands such as Blazin' Fiddles, Cliar, Wolfstone and Capercaillie.

Cruinn Còmhla
An exciting collection of some of the most popular tunes - old and new - that are being played in Scotland and collected from many different fiddling traditions.
Cruinn Comhla means 'gathered together' in Scottish Gaelic. This collection contains some fine timeless Scottish reels and strathspeys heard on many Scottish albums played by the new young bands and soloists. This book could also be described as a session tunes book as the material here is very popular in sessions too but this time some of the tunes are from older collections as well as the new music being composed today. Jewel of a Hundred Years (the former Mod feature tune by Phil Cunningham), Molly Rankines, Jack Daniels, Braes of Tulleymet, Tarbolton Lodge, Andy Renwicks Ferret and many other popular tunes. So it is an eclectic mixture of old and new as played by Phil Cunningham, Alasdair Fraser, Angus Grant, Aly Bain etc. Chords and bowings included.

Ho-ro-gheallaidh 2
A fine selection of Irish, Scottish & Cape Breton tunes being played at todays sessions in Scotland.
The tunes are more difficult than those in the Ceilidh Collection series and are ideal for sessions, advanced fiddle groups, bands, concerts festivals, SQA exams and albums. This is some of the faster and more tricky traditional music played in Scotland and should offer a challenge to the increasing number of good fiddlers and other instrumentalists in Scotland and beyond. A few of the tunes use 3rd and 5th position. Much of the material consists of reels as this is what is mostly played in sessions. and the tunes are from Scotland, Cape Breton and Ireland though there are also a few jigs, marches and airs too. Includes chords, bowings, and metronome markings for tempo.
