Scotlandsmusic

This tune, with the title This is no my ain house was printed in Orpheus Caledonius of 1733 but verses by the poet Allan Ramsay with the same title had appeared (without music) in Ramsay's Tea-table Miscellany. Burns recast Ramsay's poem, altering it almost out of recognition, but retaining the rhythms of the old tune. It was published in Thomson's Select Collection of Original Scotish (sic) Airs of 1799.
