O lay thy loof in mine, lass (sheet music)

This love poem remained unpublished until seven years after the poet's death. The subject was probably Jessie Lewars, the sister of Burns's friend John Lewars. Ironically, it was Jessie Lewars who was to nurse Burns during his brief fatla illness. The melody, 'The Cordwainer's March' was published in Aird's 'Airs' of 1782.
