Mary Morison (sheet music)

Much ink has been spilt trying to identify the subject of this poem, yet it is quite likely that Burns merely chose a name which suited the rhythms of the melody. It is an early work, dismissed by the poet himself as "juvenile" on publication, however, its popularity was immediate. The tune, Duncan Davison, was published in McGlashan's Strathspey Reels of 1780.
