This is a very well-known tune and is played both as a 6/8 march and a jig. A 6/8 march is commonly played for The Military Two-Step, The Boston Two-Step and The Britannia Two-Step.

A 6/8 march can also be used for variety in a Gay Gordons, instead of or as well as 4/4 marches. If the tune is speeded up to jig time, it can be used for a Strip The Willow, a set dance for eight people, and one of the most popular Scottish dances today, where four couples take turns in spinning each other round in various patterns at high speed!
