Jean-Ann Callender (biography)

Jean-Ann Callender was born in Glasgow and started violin with Jessie McCallum. When she moved to Fort William she learned traditional music with the renowned Lochaber fiddler Ian Kennedy. Jean-Ann is a winner of Banchory, Musselburgh, Kirriemuir and Newtongrange fiddle competitions. She studied music in Aberdeen and now teaches both classical and traditional fiddle in the city. Jean-Ann is well known as a popular teacher at Fèisan, the Aberdeen Arts Centre and was also for many years a traditional fiddle tutor at the Aberdeen Music School. She moved back to Glasgow a few years ago and is now the popular fiddle tutor at the Dunoon fiddle workshops. She is a mentor and teacher to many of the best young fiddlers in Aberdeen and Glasgow.
